When the team formed, I was tasked with designing the main character Richard.
To start with I created 8 outfit ideas for Richard. I wanted to look like a very prim and proper man to show off how anyone could fall for a phishing email scam. My group liked these designs initially, especially the dark academia theme, however as game development progressed we realised my designs for Richard wouldn't fit the game so I had to make major adjustments to him.

I wanted the hacker to originally be someone who worked at Richards work that sent the email. So I went with a dark academia look but made him look very rough to make him come off an uneasy person to be around. To make the hacker look more intimidating whilst keeping him human I made sure to give him a reversed triangle build. In character design this shape often suggests power but also instability which was exactly the personality I wanted to give the hacker.
I later changed the design along with Richard’s design to instead have the hacker be a homebody. I still kept the reverse triangle build, I just made it smaller. I gave him jogging bottoms and a simple t-shirt.

The other animator on our team suggested the virus communicate with window popups so I incorperated that into the design. I went for a cocky game host vibe, someone who would mock the player from the sidelines while they complete puzzles. I also came up with the idea of the virus emoting with ascii emoticons. After showing the previous design to my team they suggested I lean towards a more horror genre (this was when we had the idea of making our vr experience a horror game). I gave the virus broken limbs and replaced any tendons that would be visible with cables. This design was supposed to be 3d modeled however as i didn't deliver the turnaround before the group set deadline it was unfortunately discarded
